DIY solution for extension cord. Seen at Spanish language school in Cuernavaca.
September 17. The abbreviated phrase DIY (do it yourself) is also used in Mexico. Go to YouTube and type in something like "harry potter diy dulces" and there should be a Spanish language video about how to make sweets with the harry potter theme. Here is the video link.
El refrigerador no functiona
The refrigerator stopped working. The owner of the homestay house, Francisco, diagnosed el problema. He identified that the root cause was the electrical starter and the compressor. I helped him by holding the flashlight and giving my technical opinion in Spanglish. I learned by watching, aprender por ver.
It is common in Mexico to troubleshoot and [try] to fix (arreglar) appliances and cars on your own, with the help of a knowledgable friend or family as needed. What US Americans would call a DIY fix/solution is the fix/solution in Mexico.
