Casa de Tapas (Day 25 of 27)
Octopus that had been massaged for 20 minutes. Absolutely tender! As good as quality sushi in Japan.
25 de septiembre - Almuerzo de pulpo y paella de mariscos. Bebida es agua mineralizado (con burbujas de gas). Costo total - $164 pesos, about $8 dollars USD.
El cafe es "Tres Casas," un empleado solo quien es el mesero y cocinero, y ocho asientos. El espacio del cafe es el mismo de un dormitorio mediano in Estados Unidos, más o menos.
The waiter and cook, one and the same, went across the street to a convenience store to fetch my order for sparkling water.
My Hotel en Mexico City
In Cuernavaca, the hostess of my homestay has the last name González. By coincidence, the boutique hotel I stayed at in Mexico City is also has the same name - Casa González.
At Casa González, I met people who are regular clients of this hotel when they come into town for business purposes, Jorge (from Chicago) and Leandro (from Brazil). Jorge stays for months at a time; he has his own systems solutions company and is expanding his business in Mexico. Leandro works for Erickson.
Jorge grew up in Mexico, and immigrated to United States as a teenager. He is very familiar with Mexico City. On Sunday for the late afternoon and evening, Jorge gave me a tour of historic downtown Mexico City - Catedral Metropolitano, Templo Mayor, Zócalo, Gran Hotel, dinner at Azul Histórico, drink and music (estudiantina style) at Cafe de Tacuba, and a ballet folklórico performance at the Palacio de Bellas Artes. Muchas gracias Jorge!
Fue DF, hoy CDMX - Was DF, today CDMX
Like the designation "DC" in the capital city name Washington DC, Mexico's capital also had the added designation of DF (Distrito Federal). To pronounce it like a local, say "de-effe".
About 2 years ago, the name Mexico City DF, was officially changed, dropping the DF, to be just Ciudad de Mexico, in short CDMX (CiuDad de MéXico). Many printed (and online) maps now need to be updated. Many people here still automatically call it DF, remember say "de-effe".

New Sign at Zócalo Plaza, Metropolitan Cathedral in background. Note the enormous Mexican flag at the center, an honor guard (about 20 soldiers) raises and takes down the flag, every day. |
