National Palace Museum (Day 2 of 8)

January 8 - The natural setting, gardens and exhibition halls make this museum an amazing place to visit.
Gateway to National Palace Museum

The Taiwan's National Palace Museum is a gem. Of the many museums I have visited, this one is comparable to the following gems in scale and quality of collections, and the physical setting.
  • Musée d'Orsay, Paris, France
  • National Museum of Anthropology, Mexico City, Mexico
  • The Cloisters, one of the Metropolitan Museums, New York City, USA
My Favorite Things
I had MANY favorite objects. Just two are humbly shown here.

Jade and Cedar Screen

Equally beautiful on both sides, as the jade centerpieces and cedar frames are carved on both sides with identical motifs.

Screen appears to glow, as the thinness of the jade centerpieces allow light to pass through.

Cheatsheet on cloth paper

Cheatsheet for studying for civil service examinations. Passing the exams were required to be accepted into the emperor's administration.

Fragment of the cheatsheet is shown. The complete cheatsheet covers a student desktop. Information is written on the entire area up to the edges.

Character font size is very small.
