1 Degree North of the Equator - SINGAPORE

January 15-19, 2019 (Year of the Boar)

I visited Singapore for 5 full days, staying with and guided by my host friends EMK and LTT. The city-state is located nearly on the Equator.

View toward waterfront, from rooftop of National Gallery Museum.
L to R : Shopping district, Esplanade Theatres (two metallic amorphous-shaped buildings), Marina Bay Sands (triple high-rise hotel with boat rooftop), Financial center.

The Republic of Singapore is an island city-state, and was a startup nation in 1965. It has since transformed itself into a global financial powerhouse. I could feel a national mood of accomplishment and ambition; I could see its polished modernity. I hear that its success is driven by well-controlled planning and execution.

Singapore is also a multi-cultural country. It has four official languages* - English, Malay, Mandarin and Tamil (in alphabetic order).

With Seafood, fresh is the key. Bon Appetite.

"1 Degree North of the Equator" is a series of 5 posts about my lasting impressions of Singapore, one for each day spent on my visit. Let's start with ...
