Texan's Map of the US

Below is a United States map based on the urban dictionary concept. Texans think big, and [collectively] have a big attitude. After all, Texas was its own country - the "Republic of Texas" from 1836 to 1845.

Known as Tejas when it was a frontier state of the newly independent Mexico in 1821 (it was formerly New Spain), Tejas was sparsely populated by Mexican settlers who called themselves Tejanos, and who were outnumbered by indigenous people. Expansionist movement from the United States brought Anglo Americans who settled and invested in Tejas, and they were initially accepted by Tejanos who felt under-funded and under-protected (from indigenous Comanche raids) by their own Mexican Federal government.

Organized by influential Anglos and Tejanos, the mix formed an allied force that revolted against the nascent and then weak Mexican Federation. By 1836, they declared independence as the sovereign Republic of Texas, which lasted until 1845 when Anglo Americans politically engineered the US annexation of the Texas with full US statehood status.

Within one generation, the region transformed from an outlying frontier of New Spain to a US [slave] state, then later joining the Confederacy and rebelling again during the Civil War. Texans do not take baby steps, they take big steps.

I have been on brief trips to Amarillo (road trip), El Paso (family visit), Houston (job interview), and too many layovers at Dallas/Ft. Worth airport.
